Teak is one of the most popular premium woods and is known for its warm color, beautiful grain, and resistance to the elements. It is no surprise that teak is a very popular wood for outdoor use. Teak furniture is an obvious choice based on its elegance, beauty, and durability. It is the ideal wood for furniture and requires very little maintenance due to its high density and natural oils. All wooden cabinets and tables are made of sturdy teak. Prefer a white cabinet? These are also possible.

Teak

Teak wood originates from Myanmar, a country with 51 million inhabitants in Southeast Asia. Southeast Asia has the highest quality teak wood, which is why TEAK2 imports the wood from Indonesia, Java. The quality of this region is the highest quality and, moreover, the furniture is skillfully made here. Real craftsmanship, which unfortunately we hardly see anywhere anymore. All our furniture is handmade, and the traditional craftsmanship gives each piece a unique look that can only be achieved in this way.

Teak wood has never been cheap and has only become more expensive in recent years. What people often don't know is that teak wood is 5-7 times more expensive than European premium oak. Teak wood is therefore a very expensive type of wood on the world market. Because of our love for teak and its many advantages, it is still the type of wood we truly believe in. Premium furniture of the highest quality, yet still at a competitive price, that's TEAK2!

Why is teak wood so superior?

One of the reasons why teak is considered much more valuable than other hardwoods is its organic structure. Teak wood is strong, smooth, and warm in color, making it easy to combine with other wooden furniture. Teak wood contains an abundance of natural oils and rubber locked in the tight grain of the wood, much more than in an average hardwood species. Teak also retains these oils and rubber better after it has been treated and dried. These unique properties give teak more natural weather-resistant properties than almost any other wood species. This is not only true for outdoor use, but also for indoor use, where these properties make the wood low-maintenance. A stain on the table? Most of it will be absorbed by the wood itself over time and the stain will largely disappear. The wood also feels really silky soft, making it ideal for wooden furniture. Another advantage of teak is that it is a very strong type of wood; it does not crumble or crack easily, which is certainly not the case with Mango wooden furniture. Teak wood can be treated and structured in many different ways. Teak wood therefore looks beautiful in any interior! Teak wood is a very attractive type of wood for both rustic and contemporary furniture.

Recycled teak wood

In 95% of cases, TEAK2 wood comes from recycled teak. Recycled teak is old teak wood sourced from old Indonesian houses, boats, furniture, and other products. Old teak wood is of the highest quality and extremely strong because it has been exposed to different living conditions for many years. This gives each piece a new lease of life and makes each part unique. Plantation teak is less common at TEAK2, but it is certainly not of inferior quality. The wood has simply experienced fewer conditions and is therefore younger. Both are equally good, provided they are properly processed. Plantation teak is planted and harvested by the Indonesian government with the intention of making teak furniture. Certificates are also issued for this, known as Perum Perhutani. In 99% of cases, teak garden furniture sold at local DIY stores is made from the cheapest possible plantation teak or wood that resembles teak. There is nothing wrong with this, but bear in mind that there is a lot of difference in teak.

Oak wood

Oak is one of the most commonly used types of wood in Europe, precisely because it grows so easily throughout Europe. The great thing about oak is that it is a strong and hard type of wood, ideal for furniture. In terms of appearance, it generally has a rustic and robust look. That is why you often see it in contemporary and industrial furniture, especially in combination with steel. Although oak grows in many different areas, the quality of the wood varies considerably from region to region. Oak from Siberia, in particular, has a much stronger structure. The wood grows slowly due to the cold temperatures, which makes it stronger and therefore harder. Although oak is a high-quality and expensive type of wood, oak wood is 5-7 times cheaper than teak on the world market!

Advantages and disadvantages of oak

+ Timeless appearance and natural color
+ Strong wood type
+ Hardness = 1360 on the Janka scale (high)
+ Sustainable
+ Easy to combine

– Heavy, but durable
– Not resistant to water, must be treated
– Although oak is 5-7 times cheaper than teak, it is still an expensive type of wood

Mango

Mango wood

Mango wood is currently a very popular type of wood for manufacturing wooden furniture. The mango tree can grow up to 40 meters high and continues to produce fruit for a long time. It is also the national fruit of India, where the tree grows. Mango wood therefore comes from India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. When the tree is no longer economically profitable, it is used for the furniture industry, among other things. The conditions surrounding the production of mango wood ensure that this wood is also affordable. The price therefore also determines the popularity of mango wood furniture to a large extent.

In terms of appearance, mango wood cannot really be compared to other types of wood. The wood grain is quite busy and has a coarse structure, giving each piece a unique look. In addition, there can be different color shades, which means that no two pieces of furniture in the same line are exactly the same. Keep this in mind! Furthermore, the location where the tree grew is also important. A mango tree grows and develops very differently in a humid area than in a drier area, which can lead to differences. The fine grain of mango wood makes it easy to finish. It is possible to polish the wood to make it shiny and smooth. You can also sand and brush the wood to give it a rougher, more rugged look. Mango wood is a lot cheaper than teak or oak.

Where teak wood is 5-7 times more expensive than oak on the world market, mango wood is about 10 times cheaper than teak!

Advantages and disadvantages of mango

+ Robust appearance
+ Strong wood type
+ Hardness = 1070 on the Janka scale (high)
+ Sustainable
+ Very cheap

– Many color shades
– Although it is a hard wood, it is vulnerable.
– Wood print with a fairly dense and coarse structure
– In dry air, it can dry out quickly and crack.
– May irritate the skin
